Hotel Room Cleaning Checklist for Small Hotels
In small hotels the same few people clean, inspect and check guests in. A written standard with a sign-off line lets you train new staff quickly and spot problems before guests do.
Cleaning order
- Enter, announce yourself, open the curtains and windows
- Strip the beds and collect towels
- Bathroom first: apply cleaner and let it work
- Make the beds
- Dust top to bottom
- Finish the bathroom: scrub, rinse, dry, restock
- Floors last, from the far corner to the door
- Final inspection and room status update
Quality control
- The supervisor inspects a sample of rooms every day, plus every room booked for a VIP or a returning complaint guest
- Use the same checklist for inspection; note failures by task
- Review recurring failures in weekly training
Stay-over rooms
Ask guests for their preference: full service, light refresh or no service. Offering "skip cleaning" options also cuts water and energy use.
