Linen Par Levels: How Many Sets Does Your B&B Need?
"Par" is the number of complete linen sets per bed you need to keep running without delays. Most operators plan with a multiple of sets per bed. Work out yours from your laundry cycle.
The logic
For every bed you need one set on the bed, one in the laundry and one clean on the shelf. Add a reserve for stains, losses and peak days. With an outside laundry that takes longer to return linen, you need more.
Simple formula
- Sets per bed = 1 (in use) + days the laundry takes to return linen + 1 (shelf) + reserve
- Multiply by the number of beds of each size
- Do the same for each towel type
Monthly stock count
- Count clean, in use and in laundry
- Record items written off (stains, damage)
- Reorder when stock falls below par
